The Mitzvah Day vision is of a day where Jews lead the way, one day a year enjoying giving back, making a difference, all together. Mitzvah Day is a Jewish led day of social action. On Mitzvah Day, around the world, thousands of people take part in hands on projects, without fundraising, to support charities and to build stronger communities.
The aim is to reduce hardship and poverty, to help our environment and to bring a little joy - hands on - no fundraising. It is a way for everyone of us to make our mark regardless of our affiliation, wealth, age, sex or nationality.
As per previous years the shul is collecting the following :
To give to Barnet Refugee Service
canned food rice pasta tea coffee unused toiletries
To give to Jewish Child's Day for the Jews of Belarus
Items of spare judaica - including kippot/couples, havdallah candles, seder/matzo plates, cholla boards, kiddush cups, tallit
WPS Cheder will also be making posters for children in Belarus, their classrooms as they have absolutely NOTHING AT ALL in their schools and they will be making Candle lighting Brachot, Shema charts, Sedra posters the list is endless!
Any posters of Jewish content they will need, we will laminate them and present them to Jewish Child's Day when they are complete.
